Welcome to my blog! My name is Victoria. I’m (finally) 18 years old and from Staten Island, New York. I am currently attending Hofstra University as a film studies and production major. I am also a member of the Honors College which is the reason why I created this blog. Personally, I’ve never really been a big writer. I always saw writing as somewhat of a chore, especially if it was about something I had no interest in. The only time I’ve really sat down and written has been for school, usually for papers for classes. I have tried and failed countless times to keep a journal just for my own enjoyment but I never really had the attention span or commitment to keep up with it. I even once tried to write a novel with my sister when we were younger about a prestigious school for wizards (totally not a rip off of Hogwarts), but that quickly got abandoned. I definitely do consider myself more of a reader, as I do enjoy a good book whenever I have the time to fit one in. Ever since I was little, I was constantly begging my mom to take me to Barnes and Noble or the library so I could buy or take out more books. Needless to say, my bookshelf at home is overflowing with tons of adventures I have yet to explore.
When I do write, I like to focus more on analyzing texts, or even movies or artwork, and trying to figure out what the author or creator was trying to say underneath the surface. I feel like you can get so much more out of texts, whether it be from a small document or an entire novel, when you take a closer look at them. Many authors leave many things left unsaid for this exact reason. If we’re not digging deeper, we’re not giving the text the attention it deserves. I recently took an AP Language and Composition class where we got to discuss and individually analyze the meanings of many novels and works, so I hope to continue doing that in my college courses.
